Morris Intensive Course at Pinewoods Camp.

In 2009, in collaboration with Justin Morrison, Stefan Read and Tom Kruskal, I was involved in elaborating a Morris Dance intensive short course at Pinewoods Music and Dance Camp in Massachusetts, run by the Country Dance and Song Society of America (CDSS).  The goals of this course were to provide an in-depth analytical look at the components of dance, from a deconstructive, as  well as a reconstructive point of view.  Over the course of one week, we worked heavily on all aspects of the Morris Dance, from steps and figures, to dances and traditions, as well as the interactions with the music, culminating with a workshop on dance invention.  The week was seen as a huge success by all involved in inspiring a younger generation of dancers to attend Pinewoods camp during Folk Music Week and breathing new life into Morris Dance instruction at CDSS programs.  Click here to see the original flyer promoting the 2009 Morris Dance Intensive and visit the permanent page for the program on the CDSS website here.
